If the darkest hour is just before the dawn, then the dawn must be just around the corner. The fur industry is pushing their ill-gotten product down our throats. Pictures of models unabashedly draped?in?fur are in every major newspaper and magazine. Millions of animals suffer and die as the industry watches the money come in.
Here are some excerpts from the latest pro-fur salvo, in the latest issue (Oct 11, 2004) of Newsweek.
"Pietra Jones caressed a spiky, oval-shaped hat made from fox, dyed lilac and purple. 'I love fur!' purred Jones."
"'People have decided to make up their own minds,' says Keith Karlan of the Fur Information Council of America."
"Since 1999, sales have climed steadily, reaching a record $1.8 billion in 2003, and are expected to be even higher this year. Much of that revenue will come not from high-end couture, but from ower-priced accessories, like BCBG's $178 rabbit fur poncho..."
Lt's not beat around the bush. The production of fur is worse than despicable, worse than heinous. It's pure, unadulterated evil. It's a crime against nature. If you're a believer, it is?a crime against Creation. And what's worse, the offenders lie about it, and try to glamorize their evil empire.
It must stop. They must be stopped. There is only one way to do it. By YOU - reading this email - to take action. Not me, not your friends, not PETA, not Stella McCartney, not a celebrity. You.
If you've hesitated writing letters to the editor in the past, now is the time to go to this link and speak on behalf of the animals. Let Newsweek know the truth.
If writing letters is not your style, you can write two sentences. If it bothers you to think about this issue, just think how small your sacrifice is compared to the animals that have to live it.?If you're not sure what to say, just tell them fur is disgusting and barbaric.
We need everyone on board. The House Rabbit Society. Rabbit Rescuers. Wildlife rehabilitators. Anyone who's ever had?a companion animal and stroked its fur.?You! If each person reading this message writes one email a month, that could be the difference between the fur industry expanding or diminishing. You have the power to hugely reduce suffering.
Short letters tend to be better received than long ones. But speak your mind. Everyone who cares about animals and is sickened by their enslavement to the fur industry needs to take action. That is the ONLY way to take on this industry. They have enormous momentum right now. But remember, the bigger they are, the harder they fall.
Please, tell your friends and family. Most people do not realize how badly animals suffer when they're confined in fur farms or trapped and BRUTALLY killed. For fashion. For "glamour."
Please pass this email, or an email in your own words, around the Internet, the country, the world, so that - finally - animal?lovers who have been on the sidelines will?join in and speak for those who desperately need a voice.
Oh, yes. The subtitle of the article is "It's less expensive and more popular than ever. But as young people snuggle up, where are the protesters?" Precisely.
