We are heartbroken to report that we lost Iggy Pop later that day on August 20, 2013. We are devastated that we adopted him into a home that would let him down to this degree, and we are doing doing our best to help his mate, Ichiko, recover and find new companionship. Despite our best efforts to screen adopters, it's difficult to predict the future, and in this case, we failed Iggy. We're sorry, Iggy - we tried to save you. Rest in Peace.

UPDATE FROM SAVEABUNNY FOUNDER: August 20. 2013

We love each and every rabbit who comes into our rescue. They are each unique and worthy of a living a long, healthy and happy life.

After we rescue them, our goal is to adopt them into loving homes where they will be treasured as a member of the family and given safety, love and protection for their entire lives. Despite rigorous adoption screening and our best efforts, sometimes people just don't keep their promises.

This is sadly the case with Iggy Pop. He came into our rescue very wounded. We rehabilitated him and he was playful, active and healthy. In 2006 we adopted him to a couple who promised to love and care for him (and his future mate) for their entire lives.

Now in his twilight years, Iggy urgently needs our help again. We are seeking donations to help with his care, as well as a medical foster home for his recovery or hospice if needed.

Over time, the couple had two kids and their priority changed. The bunnies got less and less care and attention. They didn't want to spend money on vet care and sadly, Iggy became disabled and neglected. When we found out about his situation we had him returned to us the same day.

He and his mate, Ichigo, are back at SaveABunny. Iggy came back to us in a lot of pain and was clearly suffering. He has deep infected sores from urine scald
(the equivalent of very bad bedsores or severe diaper rash). He had been chewing on his own legs out of pain.

We immediately started treatment to provide comfort and stability. He is receiving pain medication and antibiotics and has been shaved down to remove matted, fetid fur and given medicinal bathing of the infected areas. We gently apply soothing, wound healing cream to all his wounds and sores.

Despite all he's been through he still has fire in his eyes and the will to live.
He deserves WAY better than what happened to him.

We will keep you updated on his progress and would love to find him and his mate a very bunny savvy foster home where he can rest, heal and get daily medical attention.

If you are interested, please contact us and we will discuss what is involved. You provide the love and care and we can assist with the medical expenses.

We are also seeking donations to help with both his immediate needs as well as his long-term care. He has partial paralysis in his hind end and legs and his mobility is decreased.

Update 9/30/06 From Iggy

Hi everyone! I wanted to let you know that I am feeling much better. I went to the vet again, but it wasn't so bad - they gave me anesthesia so I slept through the whole thing. But the train ride there was fun. Anyhow, they trimmed my back left molar, which had been pushing my tongue to the right side and causing a huge ulcer. The trimming and antibiotics are helping my little mouth heal, and I am still getting pain killers. Yippee!

Now that I am feeling better, I have more energy to run around and explore. I love "working" on the computer and jumping onto the desk and bookshelves. And I just discovered that there are other bunnies here - all I need to do is just hop over the little gate to visit with them. For some reason, my foster mom doesn't like it when I do all of these fun things. She hurries to pick me up and move me back to the living room floor, but I always get a kiss on the head, so I guess I am not being too naughty. And besides, my real favorite thing to do is sit on the couch next to my foster mom and get petted and petted - I could do that for hours.

Update 8/23/06
From Iggy:

I went to the vet last night - not fun! They looked in my mouth and said that my bottom lip is saggy and my bottom front tooth is cracked, but that it doesn't look sharp. They also said that one back molar is unaligned and that I had a lot of saliva on the other side of my mouth, so they couldn't get a good look at the teeth there. They drew some blood, and if the results say that I am strong and healthy enough, they will anesthetize me to get a good look at the back teeth. Thankfully, they gave me a big thick towel to dig in - it helps get out some of my "vet frustration."

When we got home, my foster mom gave me some pain medication. At first it tasted sweet and delicious, but that didn't last long. But when my foster mom gave me my dinner - mushy pellets and chopped up greens - for the first time in a long while, I was really excited to eat. My foster mom said that I "really strapped on the feedbag" - whatever that means.

I will keep you updated on my progress.

Hi! My name is Iggy Pop. My foster mom named me after the rock star because right now I am a little on the skinny side, but I definitely have a lust for life. I am truly a bunny's bunny - I like to hop around and explore, but then head back to the sofa for pets and snuggles. Wouldn't you like to meet a fun and loving bunny like me?

Due to neglect, I am underweight and had to have my rear and tail shaved because of urine scald. My teeth also need some dental work, which is being done. But I still think I am pretty cute. How can you resist my white button nose and white socks? My fur is a little brittle in spots, but it is easy to see that it will be super soft and lush once I get some good food and TLC.
