NOTE FROM MARCY, SAVEABUNNY FOUNDER:

In the 10 years+ I have been doing rescue work, I've been deeply touched at the animals who have experienced the worst humans can offer can still be so resilient and forgiving despite great trauma, abuse or neglect.

For me, being in the presence of these animals, respecting their stories, tending to their needs and showing them a more compassionate side to humans is a sacred and spiritual act for me. The deep connection I share with the animals makes the world a much more beautiful place for me. Witnessing the animals' courage and survival despite all odds inspires me to advocate for their protection and safety and educate others about these special little beings.

Lotus Flower's story is a compelling story of survival despite all odds.

To summarize Lotus Flower's journey to SaveABunny:
One late spring day a man and his daughter dropped off two large garbage bags full of dead rabbits to a wildlife center as a food donation for the wild animals. They claimed that the rabbits had been humanely euthanized and all had "birth defects". Any experienced rabbit person will recognize the fallacy about so many rabbits having birth defects. As it turned out, the only "defects" that these full grown rabbits had is that they were not rabbit show winners.

As the staff unloaded the garbage bags to the freezer, at the bottom of one bag was a live, little gray girl bunny---barely breathing, but still alive.

That was Lotus Flower---with the breeder tattoo in her ear.

They gave her fluids and oxygen and resuscitated her. A Good Samaritan from bunspace.com alerted us to the bunny's plight and we offered to take her immediately.

She is named after a very mystical flower, which starts as a small flower down at the bottom of a pond in the, darkness, dirt and muck. The lotus flower continually moves upwards through obstacles to reach the light. Once it comes to the surface of the water the lotus flower begins to blossom and turn into a beautiful flower.
In many cultures, the lotus flower has become a symbol for the struggle of life at its most basic form.

Lotus Flower is now spayed and ready to be adopted to a very special home will pamper, spoil her and shower her with love.
